How we research Harley-compatible parts
Independent specification and rider-evidence aggregation. IronPath Parts brings together manufacturer documentation, retailer application listings, publicly available dynamometer tests and owner discussions to help riders narrow down their choices. We distinguish manufacturer claims, controlled measurements and individual rider impressions rather than treating them as interchangeable evidence.
Our editorial process
- Identify the exact part: record manufacturer, part number, configuration, finish and required accessories when available.
- Check fitment: compare manufacturer and retailer year/model applications; never infer Trike compatibility from Touring fitment.
- Review rider discussions: consider specific owner reports from HDForums and r/Harley, noting motorcycle configuration, reported strengths, complaints and disagreements. Individual posts are anecdotes, not controlled tests.
- Review measured performance: where relevant, consult published dyno results and record engine displacement, cam, intake, headers, tune and testing conditions. Do not attribute a complete build's gains to one component.
- Assess tradeoffs: weigh intended use, sound, comfort, install complexity, maintenance, availability and cost. Do not assign a numeric ranking without a documented comparison.
- Publish limitations: distinguish verified applications from candidates requiring exact SKU confirmation and link to original evidence.
Source library — initial research
These sources establish a starting point, not a claim that hundreds of discussions have already been reviewed.
- HDForums: Rinehart slip-ons versus Khrome Werks full system — subjective sound comparisons and upgrade considerations.
- HDForums: finding the right exhaust — one owner's Khrome Werks 4.5 HP+ experience; anecdotal.
- HDForums: Fuel Moto M8 cam testing — describes a specific Road Glide test configuration.
- Fuel Moto University: published dyno chart library — numerous engine/exhaust combinations, with results varying by build and conditions.
- Reddit r/Harley — community discovery source; no quantitative consensus is asserted without documented sampling.
What these sources currently support
Owners describe meaningful differences in exhaust sound character and acceptable volume, but preference is personal. Fuel Moto publishes measured results for specific builds; those measurements cannot be used as universal horsepower claims for standalone slip-ons. Our present source sample is limited and does not substantiate a claim that we have analyzed 500+ threads.
